Clothing Collection: There will be a clothing collection on Monday October 22nd, 2018. Should you have any bags please drop them to the school on the morning of the 22nd, the following items can be donated, clothes/shoes/bedlinen/stuffed toys/curtains/towels/ handbags/belts/laptops and mobile phones. Items not to be donated are mats/carpets/duvets/pillows or books.

 

Maths Week: Will take place this year from October 13th to October 21st inclusive. The school is registered with Maths Week Ireland and will be taking part in online events and in class activities throughout the week.

 

Halloween Fancy Dress: The Fancy Dress party will take place on “Terrifying” Thursday the 25th October 2018. The children can come to school in their scary Halloween costumes. There will be prizes in each room from the best costume made from recyclable materials. There is no need to go out and buy costumes. The fun is in the making of their scary costumes. Use items from last year. There will be lots of Halloween games, stories, poems, movies and treats for the children on the day in school.

 

School Closure: The school will be closed on Friday the 26th of October 2018 for the Presidential Election and Referendum. The school will remain closed until Monday November 5th, 2018 at 9.20am for Halloween break. We wish everyone a very safe but spooky Halloween.

 

Gymnastics: We have organised a 6-week gymnastic programme with Gymstars, starting on Thursday the 8th of November and ending on Thursday the 13th of December. Each class will get a chance to participate in gymnastics in a fun way as part of the PE curriculum and these lessons are a vital part of our ongoing work to renew our Active Flag status. The lessons cost €2 per class or €12 for the 6 classes. Gymstars will provided all the equipment and mats for the classes.

 

Gardening: Michael Costello (Heritage in Schools Expert) will be with the children on this Thursday the 18th of October and next Wednesday the 24th of October. He will be continuing his work with the children on how to grow plants/vegetables and the important aspects of biodiversity in the science curriculum. The cost per child is €1 per session and this can be brought in on the day.

 

Science Week: Will take place this year from November 13th to November 18th, 2018.

 

Money: We would like to remind people about money for Book loan, Photocopying, Arts/Crafts and text-a-parent. The cost of the Photocopying, Arts/Crafts and text-a-parent is €30 per child or €40 per family. The cost of the book loan scheme is, €6 for 1st class, €10 for 2nd class, €12 for 3rd class, €12 for 4th class, €18 for 5th class and €18 for 6th class. The break down for these costs is on the booklist you received at the end of June.

 

Gusserane Tidy Village: Gusserane Tidy Villages committee will hold a fashion show on Thursday October 25th, 2018 in the Horse and Hound, Ballinaboola at 8.00pm. The tickets cost €15.00.

 

Sing Out Loud: The rehearsals for the Sing-Out-Loud concert are in full swing as the big day Wednesday the 14th November draws close. On Wednesday the 14th November the day of the concert, the school will close for all children at 12.30. This will give the 3rd – 6th class children a chance to go home to change, eat and get ready. The 3rd – 6th class children will come back to school at 3.30pm and a bus will bring them into rehearsals in Wexford for 4.30pm. Some children will be going home with parents after the concert and this will be facilitated. The bus will bring the remaining children back to the school for collection at 10.15pm approximately.
