GUSSERANE NATIONAL SCHOOL
24th June 2019
I’d like to thank you all for a wonderful year in Gusserane NS, where has the year gone? We remember the highlights of which there were many, taking part in the Sing-Out-Loud concert in the Opera House in November, the beautiful Holy Communion ceremony in May, the Christmas Party in the hall, sports day, sports activity week, all the prize winners in the Ferns Diocese art/poetry and short story competition, getting to the rounders final, our 3rd green flag, working towards renewing our active flag, futsol finals for 3rd/4th class, sponsored walk and the all-Ireland final in community games to name but a few. All these were achieved through the hard work of our staff, parents and more importantly the pupils. All working together for a common goal. Yes, there are times when mistakes are made but we move forward by learning from them and moving on, we are all human “to err is human, to forgive divine.”
Thanks to the Board of Management under the chairpersonship of Martin Murphy for all their hard work behind the scenes making sure everything is done for the pupils. To the staff and our, SNA Pamela thank you for all your great work, preparation and help to the children and to me as Principal. To Ms. McLoughlin we wish you well as you head back to Cork, it's not the home of hurling but it's your home and that is always very special. Best wishes in your new life and teaching career. To Bridget and Kieran, thank you for keeping the school so clean and tidy. Thanks to the Priests of the parish especially Fr. Laffan for his work with the Holy Communion class, for facilitating confession at Christmas and Easter and for the end of year mass. Thanks to the Parents Association under the chairpersonship of Geraldine Purcell. It was a pleasure working with you this year and I know the children and staff thank you from the bottom of their hearts for all the special things and occasions that you organised for them. I have to say the school calendar was my personal highlight, it was so beautiful. Thanks to the parents/Guardians for all your support to the staff and to the school. Most of all thank you for your support to me as Principal, it means so much when I get your backing and help.
To the pupils, you have grown so much this year and learned so much. Thank you for your co-operation and good behaviour in class and your enjoyment of what is done for you by everybody. I hope you have a great summer holiday and may it be safe and happy for you all. To the sixth class, it's hard to believe 8 years have gone by. We as teachers have watched you grow up and mature into wonderful people that we are all very proud of and we know the future of this country is in safe hands. You, were a pleasure to work with, when you made a mistake you learned from it and moved on in a positive way. Your contribution to school life can be seen clearly throughout the school. All the other classes respect you so much and thank you for your help. You are all very welcome to come back to Gusserane NS anytime and its wonderful to see you come back and tell us how you are getting on. My advice to you is always be positive, never give up, put in the hard work and you’ll always get the rewards. You can be whatever you want to be and the only one that can stop you doing this is yourself. Be a prophet and stand up always to injustice.
We look forward to seeing everybody back on Thursday, August 29th for the new 2019/2020 school year.
