GUSSERANE NATIONAL SCHOOL
September 2nd, 2019
Firstly, I would like to welcome back all the children and parents/guardians to the school from the summer holidays. I hope that you all thoroughly enjoyed them and that you have many fond memories to cherish from them. The start of a new school year is an exciting time for all, and I wish all the pupils every best wish for the coming year. Best wishes to the new Junior Infants as they set out on their journey. I would like to wish Ms. Mairéad Boyle our new teacher every success and best wishes as she takes up her position in Gusserane NS. The staff of Gusserane NS look forward to working with you and your children this year.
Road Safety/Car Parking: We would ask all parents/guardians to be extremely mindful of all children as they drop off/pick up in the mornings and afternoons. Please do not park directly in front of the school gate, this should at all times be kept clear and nobody is to park directly in front of the gate. Please be careful when reversing in case there are pupils behind you. Try if possible, not to park across the road. If you must please accompany your child to and from the gate across the road. If you get delayed in the evening, please contact the school as early as possible so that your child and teacher can be informed. If you are not the person who will be dropping off/collecting, we would ask that you pass on this important information to the designated person and we thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Parent/Teacher Appointments: We would ask parents/guardians if they do wish to meet with a class teacher to phone the office and a suitable appointment can be made to meet with a class teacher. If it is a minor issue e.g like a medical/dental appointment a note can be given to the class teacher.
School Assembly: The school doors open at 9.20am for children to enter the school. Children are not to be dropped off prior to 9.20am as they will not be supervised. Junior infants will be finished at 12.30pm until Friday the 20th of September, after that they will go home at 2.00pm. Senior Infants go home at 2pm and all other children go home at 3.00pm. If a parent/guardian knows they will be late, please let the school know of this as soon as possible. In this way, the child can be reassured that someone is on the way.
Staff Meeting: A staff meeting will be held on Monday the 23rd of September. All the children will be going home at 12.30pm on this day.
Football Coaching: James Flynn (football/hurling coach) will be coming to the school on Thursday afternoons from Thursday the 5th of September until Halloween and we look forward to having James in the school.
Secondary School: We wish all our former sixth class pupils every success as they start their journey through Secondary School, and we would also like to wish the best of luck to our former pupils who will be receiving their Junior Cert results at the end of September.
Leaving Certificate: We would like to congratulate all our past pupils on their wonderful Leaving Certificate results and wish them every success in their future studies and careers. Exciting times lie ahead for them all. Well Done!
Money: We would like to remind people about money for Book loan, Photocopying, Arts/Crafts and text-a-parent. The cost of the Photocopying, Arts/Crafts and text-a-parent is €30 per child or €40 per family. The cost of the book loan scheme is, €10 for Junior Infants, €10 for Senior Infants, €10 for 1st class, €12 for 2nd class, €20 for 3rd class, €20 for 4th class, €24 for 5th class and €24 for 6th class, the break down for these costs is on the booklist you received at the end of June.
Again, I would like to wish pupils, parents/guardians, and staff the very best for 2019/2020.
Let’s have a great year!
