February 2024
February started with a class party where we enjoyed making and eating our own pizzas in the afternoon, having enjoyed tea and toast in the morning. We had been working hard to earn this class party and are already looking forward to the next one.
We made St. Brigid’s Crosses from rushes to commemorate St. Brigid and we discussed her life and the significance of the cross that she made. We also had pancakes in school for Pancake Tuesday. We went to mass for Ash Wednesday and wrote some Lenten promises and prayers when we got back to school after mass. We have been trying to keep our Lenten promises throughout Lent.
In February, we continued learning about Italy. We completed tourism brochures for Italy, giving details about its major attractions. We then moved our focus towards The Romans, followed by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. We completed some projects on The Romans in pairs.
We finished tag rugby with Katie, which we thoroughly enjoyed. However, we began dance lessons with Anne-Marie Cooney in the hall and have been enjoying these lessons to wake us up on a Tuesday morning! We have also been busy playing table tennis in our class, which has brought great excitement, especially on the days when it is raining outside! Jim was victorious in our singles tournament and our doubles tournament is still ongoing.
The highlight of February for us, was our trip to the 1798 Rebellion Centre in Enniscorthy. We had a fantastic day out and learned lots of new information. The staff at the centre were very impressed with our enthusiasm on the day!
We finished off February with a fantastic ‘Cineáltas Week’ in our school. We had so many random acts of kindness in our class and we completed some lovely activities to spread kindness throughout our school. We finished the week with a pyjama day, where we raised our Cineáltas flag. We went to Ms. Boyle’s room in the afternoon to watch ‘Monsters, Inc.’ with 5th and 6th Class. It was such a relaxing and gratifying day!
We are looking forward to March and to bright spring days ahead!
