February 2024

February 2024

February was an exciting month for 1st and 2nd class. We kicked off the month with Science week. The boys and girls enjoyed making tin foil boats and testing their strength to see how many coins they could hold before they sank. We learned all about floating and sinking and what shapes float the best too.

In February we also celebrated Valentine’s day. We loved making different cards and prints to give to the people we loved. A particular favourite was printing using toilet roll holders, we made heart shapes and children created unique and different art from the same starting points.

This month, we were learning about ‘bia’ in Irish. Children ate ‘tósta’ with ‘subh’ and ‘im’.. They all enjoyed an extra snack during the day and spoke some more Irish using ‘Ba mhaith liom’ to chose what they would like.

Children had a short month in school with it being a Leap Year. We learned about the calendar in Maths and they also found out about why it happens and found some traditions around the shorter month. All the children were very glad they could celebrate their birthday each year and not just once every four!
