Active School Flag (ASF) is a Department of Education and Skills Initiative supported by Healthy Ireland, and part of the National Physical Activity Plan.

The ASF initiative provides schools with a framework to guide, support and incentivise towards achieving a physically educated and physically active school community.

Gusserane NS was awarded its first Active School Flag in May 2015, through the hard work of pupils and the wider community. We received our second Active Schools Flag in June 2021. Each year, we form an Active School Flag committee, made up of pupils from second to sixth class. The committee helps with events throughout the year and Active School Week. All of our students are taught all of the strands of the PE curriculum each year and take part in Physical Activity initiatives throughout the year. We also hold an annual Active Schools Week every June. Over the next few years, we will be working towards earning our third Active School Flag. Our Active Schools Slogan is hop, skip, jump and play, let’s stay active everyday!
