December 2022
1st and 2nd Class had an exciting and eventful December before we finished the month with our Christmas holidays.
We started off preparations for Christmas early by beginning to rehearse for our Christmas play, ‘Tiny Angel’. The class decided on their roles, read the script, and practised their Christmas songs with vigour!
This all culminated in a fantastic performance near the end of December, where all their hard work paid off. Everybody in the class said their lines with confidence and sang their hearts out.
In religion, 1st and 2nd class learned about Advent and began the countdown to Christmas (we even used a chocolate calendar to help us out!). We created our own advent wreaths with candles representing peace, hope, love, and joy.
Our class learned about the weather in Geography, and we researched different ways that we could record our winter weather. We worked in groups to make rain gauges to find out how much rain fell in Gusserane in one week. We noticed that the amount increased as the week progressed.
Gymnastics continued in December and there was a great sense of pride when children achieved their first headstands, alongside a few wobbles! They also learned partner holds, completed vault jumps and much more. The children bid a sad goodbye to Kevin and Tommy as we are finished with gymnastics for this year.
For the subject of art, the boys and girls worked very hard. We read the poem ‘Winter’ by Dorothy Aldis, and created our very own snowflakes. The children used lollipop sticks to investigate the best way to design a snowflake, before we painted them white, stuck them together and added glitter and our photos to create our very own Christmas tree decorations. They created A3 winter scenes and learned to make movable Santa’s too!
The term ended with hot food and a disco in the hall with some help from the Parent’s council. The children couldn’t contain their excitement when they saw Santa come through the doors! They all had a great time dancing and singing their hearts out alongside the DJ. It was the perfect end to a great first term.
