December 2022
December was a very exciting month in 3rd and 4th class. We were busy preparing our play “Gabriel and the Three Wise Biddies” as well as preparing for our schools first inaugural Carol Service.
At the beginning of December, we starting working on our play, “Gabriel and the Three Wise Biddies”. This play was based on the Nativity Story but with three new characters – the Three Wise Biddies. They believe that the story needed a makeover and should be brought into the 21st Century. We read through the play and children were assigned characters and lines to learn. We all worked so hard to learn our lines and act the part. On the day of the performance, we all came to school with our costumes for the play. The play was performed in the hall and video recorded. We were so excited to watch the video in school and were even more excited to show our parents and families the video when we got home.
During December we also started practicing for our first ever Carol Service in Gusserane NS. The Carol Service consisted of a presentation of symbols, a performance of The Nativity Story, Prayers of the Faithful and a huge selection of songs performed throughout. All classes in our school had a part to play in the Carol Service. We practiced hard in the church with Ms Foxe and the other teachers in the days leading up to the Carol Service. On the night, our parents and families came to watch us perform.
During December we did lots of art. Some of our artwork was displayed in the hall for the video recording of our play. We also prepared two pieces of artwork for the church on the night of the Carol Service. We drew a winter landscape for the hall and painted a Nativity Silhouette and made Dancing Elves for the church.
To reward us for all of our hard work, the Parent’s Association threw a Christmas Party for the whole school in the hall at the end of December. We were treated to hot food and delicious sweet treats. After our food we danced the day away at the disco, we even had a DJ playing the music! The DJ also played some games with us and gave out prizes. We all had so much fun at our Christmas Party!
We are looking forward to a well deserved break over Christmas. We can’t wait to come back to school in January and take on a brand new year!
