December 2022
The month of December was extremely busy in the Infant Room. The children were very excited when our Elf from last year came back to visit us from the North Pole! Every morning, our class Elf would find himself getting into some mischief! The children were busy trying to find the Elf each morning!
The children loved exploring the theme of Christmas through play. We were busy wrapping presents in our Christmas Toy Workshop, building Santa’s workshop in our construction area and creating some lovely art and craft for Christmas. We drew our own elves, designed some Christmas cards for our families and created some Nativity Art which was displayed in Gusserane Church.
The pupils did a fantastic job reciting their Christmas ABC Poem in both the hall and at our School Carol Service. They did an amazing job learning their lines! The poem told us about the importance of Christmas. We also sang some Christmas songs on our video for our families to see.
In Irish, we learned lots of new words linked to our Christmas theme. The children learned the song ‘Bualadh Bos’ and displayed some great singing and dancing in class!
In Maths we were focusing on counting, number recognition and writing numbers. The Senior Infants were busy practising their addition up to 8.
We finished up our Literacy Lift Off Stations this month. The children did a super job at their reading, writing and phonics. We will have Literacy Lift Off again later on in the year. We also read some nice Christmas stories. The children in particular loved ‘The Jolly Christmas Post Man.’
We finished up the Gymnastics strand of the PE curriculum for this year. The children really did a great job in Gymnastics and their progress was great! We really enjoyed working with Tommy and Kevin.
We learned about the story of Christmas and the birth of baby Jesus. We learned about the characters in the nativity and that the baby Jesus was born in the town of Bethlehem.
Leading up to the holidays, our brilliant Parents Association organised a party for the whole school. The Infants loved the hot food and treats, the disco and they even got to meet Santa! We had a Christmas quiz with first and second class before the holidays. We also completed a STEM challenge by constructing our own Christmas tree using lots of different construction materials.
