December 2023
December was a very busy and exciting month in 5th and 6th class. Throughout the month we were learning about Ar Scoil in Gaeilge, length and number theory in maths and practicing our inference skills in English. As well as this we were busy preparing for our first ever live Christmas Concert and our Christmas Carol Service. Tommy and Kevin continued to join us every Tuesday for gymnastics and Jimmy came in every Friday for GAA.
All the roles were assigned for our play, “A Christmas Idol”, and we started to practice. The plot of our play was that Santa Claus thought he was too old to continue being Santa so he wanted to retire. This meant that Mrs Claus had to hold auditions to try and find a new Santa in time to deliver all of the presents on Christmas Eve. Some of the characters who auditioned included The Easter Bunny, Turkey, Percy Pumpkin and Blitzen the Reindeer. There were even some local characters who auditioned – including Eamonn Kent, Michael “Towser” Whelan and even our very own Ms Foxe! The boys and girls worked so hard rehearsing for the play and thoroughly enjoyed performing the play! We even got to perform our play twice in one day – with a matinee and an evening performance.
A couple of days after our Christmas Concert we had our Christmas Carol Service in the Church. Ms Foxe prepared boys and girls throughout the school for the nativity play and for the carols. There were solo singers and the whole school sang in the choir. Thank you Ms Foxe for all of your hard work!
Then came the day we were all looking forward to the most – our Christmas party! Our wonderful Parent’s Association organised an amazing party for us in the hall during the final week of school. There was a DJ who played lots of fun games with us, there was hot food for us to eat and Santa Claus even paid us a visit. It is always one of our favourite days during the school year and this year was no different!
December was the busiest month of our school year so far! We all worked so hard in school during term one and we are looking forward to a break over the Christmas holidays. Looking forward to see what 2024 has in store for us!
