December 2023

November 2023

December was a busy month full of festive fun and frolics! We spent a lot of time practising for our Christmas play, ‘The Thieves of Fr. Christmas’, which we performed to a packed hall before Christmas. It is fair to say that this was the highlight of our month as ‘B.A.R.T’ kidnapped Santa and sent the world into a state of panic. Thanks to Garda Paddy Ryan and ace detective Mick Muldoon, along with their S.W.A.T team, the case was solved and Santa was released just in time for Christmas! We had a lot of fun throughout December practising for our Christmas play and even more fun performing it for our families. A night to remember for sure!

We looked at the continents of the world in Geography and enjoyed exploring them on Google Earth. We created projects in groups about an assigned continent and discovered a lot of new facts. We learned a very catchy song to help us remember the names of the continents and you can hear us singing the song at any stage in the day!

We made an extra effort to take some time to pray during December as we prepared for Christmas through the season of Advent. We wrote some Advent promises that we tried to stick to in December and we learned all about the Advent wreath and the Jesse tree.

We finished our gymnastics lessons in December and enjoyed some more GAA sessions with Jimmy. We have also been enjoying playing hockey on the court, which is a new firm favourite with our class!

We were also busy in December looking at Procedural Writing and we completed some wonderful pieces of work. Our favourite was writing instructions for salt dough decorations and making them to hang on our Christmas tree in class.

Of course to celebrate the countdown to Christmas, we completed lots of Christmas art while listening to lots of Christmas songs. We painted Christmas tree trucks, drew perspective snowmen, used pastels to draw Christmas trees and gingerbread houses, to name but a few! We also made snowmen out of socks and rice and decorated them. We then took them home to spend Christmas with us!

On December 22nd, we rushed out the door, ready for our Christmas holidays with hearts full of cheer. We are looking forward to recharging our batteries over the break so we can return to school in January, ready to face the new year with great enthusiasm!
