January 2023

January 2023

Third and fourth class came back to school after Christmas refreshed and ready for all that the rest of the school year has to offer.

We started off January by reflecting on 2022 and discussing our aspirations for 2023. We came up with some new years resolutions and displayed them proudly in our classroom.

We have been learning about report writing this month. We used the tablets to research some information on our favourite animals – where they live, what they look like and what they eat. We then used Book Creator to publish our finished reports. We loved using Book Creator and the finished products are on display on the English board in our classroom. We also started reading stations in January. We are lucky to have Ms Doyle in our classroom twice a week to help us with our reading.

This month we also started Yoga with Amanda. We are learning lots of new stretches and yoga poses. At the end of each session we get to relax with some meditation.

We are very lucky that artist and illustrator, Sarah Bowie,  has visited our classroom this month as part of Teacher Artist Partnership.  Sarah is teaching us all about drawing illustrations and how to create our own comic books. We have two more sessions left with Sarah in February and we can wait to finish our very own comics!

January was artist appreciation month as we have been learning all about Van Gogh. We studied his painting, Sunflowers.  We then created our own “pop-up” version of his painting. We started off by making the “pop-up” card. We then created our own mini sunflowers. After that we used colouring pencils/oil pastels to colour the background. We were all so happy with our finished pieces!

February and the beginning of Spring is just around the corner and we cannot wait!
