January 2024

January 2024

The Infants were all delighted to see their friends again after the Christmas holidays. We had lots of exciting news to share in class and we were eager to tell our friends about the lovely toys we got over Christmas!

Our topic for the month of January was ‘The Weather’. We can say what the weather is each morning both in English and Irish. We had lots of fun pretending to be weather forecasters at our role play station. We listened to some lovely stories in SESE about the weather, including ‘The Snowman’. We learned about Penguins in Antarctica and we learned about birds migrating. We also learned lots of new weather vocabulary in Irish this month. We sang the song ‘Conas atá an aimsir?’ and recited the poem ‘Fear Sneachta’.

We celebrated Catholic Schools week this month. We talked about the importance of our school community and named the people who help us in our school. We interviewed Ms. Foxe and asked her some questions about working in school. We drew some lovely pictures of people who help us in school and we were all very proud of our work!

We started rugby coaching with Katie this month. We are really enjoying all of the fun games and rugby skills that we have completed so far.

We focused on paint and colour this month in Art. We learned about the 3 primary colours and mixing colours to make new ones. We looked at the artist ‘Kadinsky’ and the use of colour in his circles painting. We then created our own paintings.

We have Literacy Lift Off Stations with Ms. Molloy this month. The Senior Infants are reading fiction and non-fiction books and the Junior Infants are learning to blend sounds to read words. We are also enjoying phonics games and handwriting during stations. We have been focusing on number in Maths. Junior Infants were doing lots of work on number writing, number recognition and counting. Senior Infants were focusing on the numbers 9 and 10. We were also doing lots of work on counting and addition sums.

We have lots to look forward to in February. We can’t wait for more rugby coaching and dance lessons with Ann Marie Cooney!
