January 2024

January 2024

We got straight back to work in January after the Christmas break. We were all refreshed and excited for the new year!

We started to study the 1798 Rebellion in history and learned all about the Battle of New Ross. We were intrigued to learn that the Three Bullet Gate is referred to in Amhrán na bhFiann as the ‘bearna bhaoil’. We completed group projects on the rebellion towards the end of the month and were delighted with our finished products.

We also started to learn all about Italy in January. We made tourism brochures with information for people travelling to Italy. We also constructed the Leaning Tower of Pisa out of paper and tape/glue in art. It was so interesting to see how everyone tackled this project differently. The concentration levels were through the roof!

We started stations in maths on Thursdays this month, which we have been enjoying.  In maths, we enjoyed looking through ALDI catalogues to work out questions and to try and spend as near to €50 as possible, while buying at least four items. We had lots of big spenders in our class!

In English, we had stations on Tuesdays. Each group has started its own book which we read at one of the stations. We are reading the newest ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’, ‘Tremendous Tales’, by Tom Gates and ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules’. We are also writing our own narrative stories and are looking forward to finishing and publishing them in February.

We started tag rugby coaching with Katie in February and we were so excited when we got to have a session on the pitch last week!

Overall, we have had a busy January in Third and Fourth Class and are excited for February and the start of Spring!
