A huge welcome to our new Junior Infants here in Gusserane NS who have settled in so well, well done everyone! Senior Infants were delighted to see all of their friends again at the end of August!
We had lots of free play during the first few weeks of school. The children loved playing with sand, lego, blocks, dolls houses, figures and farm animals!
In Irish we learned all about ourselves. We learned the phrases ‘Dia Duit’ and ‘Is Mise’. We enjoyed singing our Irish song too! We also learned about ourselves in Science. We discussed how we are all different and we used mirrors to discuss our hair and eye colour. We drew some lovely self-portraits!
Senior Infants were busy revising their sounds, sight words and letter formations during September. Junior Infants engaged in lots of phonological awareness activities, including listening tasks, rhyming words and listening to syllables in words. The children were busy with lots of fine motor activities. Peg boards, playdough and threading were some of the activities enjoyed by the children! The Junior Infants were busy mark making and drawing pictures.
The Junior Infants learned to match objects in Maths, as well as using new words such as big and small, and sorting items into sets. Senior Infants completed lots of revision on the numbers 0-5.
The children learned their colours, days of the week, seasons and months of the year. We also enjoyed learning nursery rhymes, including ‘Humpty Dumpty’ and ‘Jack and Jill’. We discussed what happened in the rhymes and sequenced them. We read some nice stories including ‘Going to School’ and ‘Harry and the Dinosaurs go to School’.
We are looking forward to learning all about Autumn next month!
