March started off with Engineer’s Week. We took part in design and make challenges throughout the week such as, build a “cage” out of newspaper and making the longest paper plate. Our class paired up with the junior and senior infants for STEM stations which was lots of fun. We helped the younger children build towers, build a maze for the BeeBots and build a raft. We also enjoyed playing with some of the toys we don’t get to play with much anymore such as the building blocks and straws!
We were lucky to be partnered with wonderful artist Nonie Stafford as part of the BLAST programme. Nonie helped us to create a beautiful mural in the hallway outside of our classroom. Firstly, Nonie visited our classroom one afternoon and we brainstormed ideas that we would like to be included in our school mural. Nonie created the design and then came back and sketched the design on the walls with chalk. We all brought in our painting clothes and got to work on our mural. It took two full days to complete and we are over the moon with the finished product.
We also celebrated the very important people in our lives with our VIP DAY. We had a big celebration in the hall with each class singing songs or reciting poetry. Our class wrote poems about our VIP’s and we made projects about our VIP. All of our VIP’s came to the hall on 14th March and we performed for them and they got to see our lovely artwork and projects. Our VIP Day also coincided with the Great Irish Bake, where we brought in lots of baked good from home and all money raised went to the Children’s Health Foundation in Ireland.
Our last week before the Easter Break was very busy! The Order of Malta visited our classroom and gave us training on how to perform CPR. Also we visited New Ross for the FAI Soccer Blitz. All teams performed brilliantly, with our boys team even getting to the final on the day!
We are looking forward to a well deserved rest over the Easter break and look forward to our Confirmation when we come back.
