November 2022
Our theme in the Infant Room for November was People Who Help Us. The children learned all about the Doctors Surgery. We learned lots of new vocabulary, including equipment that a Doctor uses such as a thermometer and a stethoscope. We also learned about who works in a Doctors Surgery. We developed our understanding of this topic through lots of playful learning experiences.
In Maths, we were learning all about patterns, time and number. The Infants made some lovely patterns using teddies, lollipop sticks and counters. The Senior Infants were learning about the seasons and days of the week. We discussed what season our birthdays are in. We were also learning our days of the week song. Junior Infants were developing their counting skills and developing their recognition of numbers.
We started Literacy Lift Off Stations with Ms. Roche and Ms. Walsh four days a week. The children are reading lots of books and engaging in phonological awareness activities, independent writing/drawing activities and vocabulary/sight words games with our classmates. The Junior Infants began learning their initial sounds. We are carefully listening to sounds at the start of words and generating our own words that start with the sounds we are learning. The Senior Infants are also learning new sounds and learning to recognise them in words. We will be continuing Literacy Lift off until Christmas!
Science week took place during the month of November. We had lots of fun undertaking different experiments in class. Ms. Boyle’s third and fourth class came into our classroom to show the infants some brilliant science experiments. Ms. Boyle showed the children lots of different fruits. Then, the children had a chance to describe the textures of each fruit. The children also explored magnetism, an experiment with dancing raisins, static electricity using balloons and observing objects which would float or sink.
We also started our Gymnastics lessons this month with Gymstars Gymnastics Club. The children have got off to a great start. They will be learning lots of new skills over the next few weeks, such as forward rolls and cartwheels!
We started some winter themed art this month. For one of our art lessons, we completed guided drawing of a bear. We also created some penguins using lots of coloured card, great for developing our cutting skills.
We are looking forward to next month, when we will begin our new topic: Christmas!
