November 2023
Our theme in Infants this month was People Who Help Us. We discussed the people who help us in our community and why they are important. For playtime we enjoyed the topic of The Garda Station. We were thrilled when we received a visit from the Gardaí. We were able to ask them lots of questions and they told us about the different things they do in their job!
We were thrilled to have the Gymstars back to us in November for Gymnastics. We had lots of fun playing games with Tommy and Kevin and we were working hard on some new skills such as handstands and cartwheels. We are looking forward to the rest of our lessons up until the Christmas holidays. We are also busy with GAA coaching on Fridays and Jimmy has been teaching us new skills for football and hurling. For the Active Flag initiative, we are taking part in an Active Everyday Challenge. We are enjoying our movement breaks in the classroom. We love using Go Noodle or taking part in Super Mario runs!
The Infants enjoyed Science Week in November. We enjoyed some cool experiments. We completed the skittles experiment and observed warm water melting sugar off the skittles to create a rainbow. We also observed raisins in still and sparking water. The raisins dance in sparkling water because of the bubbles.
The Infants undertook some procedural writing this month. We learned how to make rice krispie buns. The Junior Infants ordered the steps needed to make rice krispie buns and the senior infants wrote them step by step. We then made some yummy rice krispie buns in school. The Junior Infants started learning their letter sounds and are enjoying learning their new songs/actions for each sound. The Senior Infants are also busy learning their new sounds. We are delighted to have Ms. Walshe back with us for Literacy Lift Off. We are busy reading books, doing some fun phonics games and practicing our patterns and handwriting.
In Maths this month we learned about 2-D Shapes and patterns. We learned the names of the shapes and we used lots of materials to create our own shapes and patterns, such as lollipop sticks and peg boards. We were also learning about time and words like morning, afternoon, evening, and night. We discussed what we do at these times of the day and we also learned about days of the week. For number work the Junior Infants were focusing on the number 3, while Senior Infants were learning about the number 8.
December will be a busy month in school. We have already started practicing for our Christmas Play! We are also eager to see if our Christmas Elf Snowdrop will make an appearance back in our classroom this December…
