October 2022
What a busy month October was in the 3rd and 4th class classroom!
Our theme in SESE for the month was Japan. We learned all about the people and culture of Japan. We carried out our own research in small groups using the tablets. We researched traditional Japanese food, traditional Japanese clothes, Japanese culture, the geography and landscape Japan, famous Japanese landmarks, popular sports in Japan and native animals to Japan. In our groups we worked to present our projects in our neatest handwriting. Every group member had a part to play in the project and we loved carrying out the research. We were so happy with our finished projects and we were so proud of ourselves when they were displayed for Gusserane NS’ Open Night.
As were learning about Japan in SESE, we also studied the artwork of famous Japanese artist, Hokusai. We studied his most famous work – The Great Wave of Kanagawa. We created our own version of the famous piece and used oil pastels to colour it in. Also in art this month, we created monsters out of clay. We learned how to make a pinch pot out of clay and how attach clay pieces together using slip.
In Maths were learning about subtraction, lines and angles and fractions during October. We continued to enjoy maths stations with Ms Roche and Ms Walsh. In English we continued practicing our recount writing, we are still enjoying reading The Twits and we were writing our own diamante poems. In Gaeilge we focused on the theme of Bia during October. We finished off our work on Bia by writing our own biachláir and displaying them on the Irish board in our classroom.
We continue to practice our Sing Out Loud songs for our upcoming show in the National Opera House in November. We are all so excited to sing on such a big stage for all our families.
We finished off October by celebrating Halloween. We dressed up in school and took part in a Halloween Table Quiz with 5th and 6th class. We also had a Halloween Disco with the whole school in the hall, we had so much fun dancing and showing off our costumes.
We cannot wait to see what fun and excitement awaits us in November!
