October 2023

October 2023

October was a very eventful month in the 5th and 6th class classroom. At the beginning of the month we found out that we would be going on a field trip to Hook Lighthouse. Before our trip we learned all about the history of Hook
Lighthouse and completed projects in groups. We had a wonderful day out at Hook Lighthouse and learned lots from our tour guide. We even got to go out on the balcony at the top! We could not believe how windy it was up there!

We learned all about electricity in science and made our own parallel and series
electrical circuits. In art we made our very own lighthouses out of recycles
pringles tubes. We made a papier mache base for our lighthouses out of cardboardand newspaper. We were delighted with the finished products and thought they looked amazing lit up.

In maths we learned all about long division and lines and angles. Maths week took place during October also. We had a problem of the day each day which we enjoyed solving. Our class helped 1st and 2nd class with maths stations, we loved becoming the teacher! We took part in a table quiz at the end of the week with 3rd and 4th class.

At the end of the month we were thrilled when we heard the junior and senior infants would be visiting our classroom for buddy reading! The infants picked out books and we read to them and listened to them reading. We hope to take part in buddy reading again soon.

On the last day of school before mid-term break we all dressed up for Halloween. Our classroom was taken over by zombie horse riders, zombie gymnastics, Alvin and the Chipmunks and even Gru and his minions! We had a fashion show in the
basketball court where we could show off our costumes and had a disco afterwards. It was such a fun day.
