October 2023
1st and 2nd Class had a busy month learning all about the season of autumn. We found out that some animals hibernate, leaves change colour and fall off of deciduous trees and lots more!
We created lots of autumn art, but safe to say, our favourite activity was creating hedgehogs out of clay. The children named their creations, and they turned out beautifully, all ready for their winter hibernation.
Maths week took place in school from the 16th-20th October. The children took part in lots of different maths activities and games. They solved a maths problem each day to win a prize which got very competitive. We joined with 5th and 6th class students to do some maths stations and did a fun maths quiz with Junior and Senior Infants, too!
Lots of 1st and 2nd class children were very proud to be elected onto school committees this month! They did great work informing all the parents and other students about the work we will be doing at our Open Night. The committees in school include Green Schools, Amber Flag, Gaelbhreatach and Active Flag.
Spooky season was fast approaching, and the children were getting very excited to dress up! The classroom was full of skeletons, devils, dead brides, Barbies, Wednesday Adams and Ghostbusters among others on Friday.
We tasted some Bairín Breac with mixed reviews and Cathal was very excited to find the fáinne in his slice.
We had a Halloween parade outside to show off all the fabulous costumes and it all culminated with a céilí outside with lots of dancing and even a dance-off!
