What exactly is STEM? STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths – a multi-discipline approach to teaching.

STEM education focuses on individual student’s learning styles and interests. STEM education has something to offer every student. STEM integrates subjects in ways that connect disciplines and relate them to each other. It focuses on developing higher level thinking skills by connecting classroom learning to the real world. STEM emphasises collaboration, communication, research, problem solving, critical thinking and creativity.

We value and promote STEM education in Gusserane NS. Our school was awarded the Science Foundation Ireland Plaque of STEM Excellence in 2019/20. This award recognises the extensive work the students of Gusserane NS have carried out in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.
