September 2022
We were all so happy to see each other when we came back to school and couldn’t wait to play together during break times. That being said, our eagerness to play is surpassed by our eagerness to learn!
We started off September with a STEM challenge that got us working together as a team and practicing our communication skills. In groups we were challenged with creating the tallest tower in 20 minutes. We could choose two resources – 20 plastic cups, 20 plates or 20 lollipop sticks. The teams chose their 2 resources and got building! The winning team was the one with the tallest tower when the final whistle blew. We had lots of fun and learned the importance of listening to each other.
In history this month we read the Irish myth of The Children of Lir. After listening to the story, in groups we sequenced the story and then retold the story in our own words. We also created some beautiful artwork inspired by the 4 swans in The Children of Lir. Also, in science this month we have been learning about the organs in the human body and their functions. We made some mini projects on each organ.
We created some wonderful art throughout the month. At the beginning of September we discussed positive adjectives we can use to describe ourselves and others. We then selected our top 7 adjectives to use on our Rainbow Adjective Clouds. We also discussed the colour wheel and colour theory. Later in the month we learned about the artistic technique, pointillism. We painted our own Autumn Trees and added leaves using cotton buds.
This month we started one of Roald Dahl’s more amusing novels, The Twits. We have enjoyed reading about the disgusting Twits and the pranks they like to play on one another. After reading the chapter about “wormy spaghetti”, we created our own revolting menus fit for The Revolting Twits! We have also enjoyed trying to solve tricky riddles throughout the month, and we even wrote some of our own.
We love having Ms Roche and Ms Walsh visit our classroom 3 times per week for maths stations. During maths stations we work in small groups with the teachers and also play games and work on the tablets.
September has been jam-packed with lots of fun and we cannot wait to see what October brings!
