September 2023

September 2023

September has been very busy in 5th and 6th class and it has flown by. We started the month getting to know one another and played some team-building games.

In maths we learned about place value, addition and subtraction as well as data. When we were studying data we carried out surveys in other classrooms in the school and created graphs to represent the data. In English we have been learning about recount writing and we have started a novel called “A Wolf Called Wander”. The theme of “Mé Féin” was covered in Irish in September, we wrote all about ourselves and our families.

In art we have been learning all about street art. We designed our names in a graffiti style and studied the street artist Keith Haring. We created our own versions of Keith Haring’s iconic stick people.

In geography we practiced using maps and were learning all about the counties of Ireland. We also studied the towns and cities of Ireland. In History we learned all about JFK and his connection to New Ross. We created timelines about JFK’s life used Book Creator to present projects on JFK.

In PE we started football with our coach Jimmy. We are looking forward to refining our football and hurling skills with Jimmy throughout the year.

Next month we will be learning all about Hook Lighthouse. We are looking forward to visiting the lighthouse and admiring the view from the top of the tower!
