September 2024

A huge welcome to our five new Junior Infants here in Gusserane NS who have settled in so well.Senior Infants were delighted to see all of their friends again at the end of August! We had lots of free play during the first few weeks of school. We enjoyed getting to know each otherand introducing ourselves to everyone in class. In Irish we learned all about ourselves. We enjoyed singing the songs ‘Dia duit hello’ and ‘Ceann Gualainn Glúin is Cos’. We were busy practicing how to say hello in Irish. We talked about ourselves in SESE and used mirrors to draw some self-portraits.We enjoyed having Michael in from Heritage in Schools. He told us some facts about animals, flowers and trees.Senior Infants were busy revising their sounds, sight words and letter formations during September. Junior Infants engaged in lots of phonological awareness activities, including listening tasks, rhyming words and listening to syllables in words. The children were busy with lots of fine motor activities.Peg boards, playdough and threading were some of the activities enjoyed by the children! The Junior Infants learned about colours, matching objects and sorting items into sets in our maths lessons. Senior Infants completed lots of revision on the numbers 0-5. The children are learning their days of the week, seasons and months of the year. We are also learning to say what the weather is in both English and Irish each morning. We also enjoyed learning nursery rhymes, including ‘Humpty Dumpty’ and ‘Jack and Jill’. We discussed what happened in the rhymes and sequenced them. We are looking forward to learning all about Autumn next month
